CTC-SPb glad to invite colleagues from non-governmental organizations North-West Russia and Republic of Belarus, who interested to know more about chemicals in every day life, to participate in training “Russian and Belarusian NGOs on chemicals management issues” will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, 23-24 April 2009.

This meeting is the first in the frame of Nordic Council of Ministers project “Developing competency of NGOs in chemical policies: potentials for public awareness raising in Belarus and Russia”

The overall goal of the project is to support capacity building to develop the role of Belarusian and Northwest Russian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in policy development and public awareness raising in the field of chemicals management.

Training course will give overall information on chemicals related legislation, chemicals management system and tools, public awareness etc. Your wishes and requests will be considered and integrated into the trainings.

The main topics to be covered in the 1st training:

o Importance of the chemicals - why do we need to talk about them, occurrence of chemicals in our everyday life

o Hazardous (inherent) properties of chemicals

o Set of chemicals related legislative framework

o Overview on basic requirements of international/EU legislation

o Overview on existing voluntary tools

o Impact of the EU and international legislation to BY and RU

o Overview on the major groups of products and substances of concerns nowadays (household chemicals, toys, cosmetics, etc.)

o Potential role of NGOs in overall chemicals management system.
